Rewiring FAQs

  • Flickering or Dimming Lights: Lights that flicker or dim frequently, especially when multiple appliances are in use, can point to overloaded circuits or faulty wiring.
  • Tripping Circuit Breakers or Blowing Fuses: Frequent tripping of circuit breakers or blowing of fuses suggests the electrical system is overloaded and struggling to handle the current demands.
  • Burning Smells or Hot Plugs: A burning smell or hot plugs can indicate overheating wires, which is a serious fire hazard.
  • Sparking at Sockets or Switches: Sparking when plugging in appliances or turning on switches is a clear sign of a dangerous electrical fault that needs immediate attention.
  • Outdated wiring: Electrical wiring standards and safety regulations have evolved significantly over time. Homes built before the 1960s are more likely to have outdated wiring that doesn’t meet current safety standards.

There’s typically several phases to a rewiring job. Firstly, plans are drawn up to meet your specific requirements and improve efficiency by looking at the layout of your home.

Then, all old fittings and electrical cables are removed.

It’s then time to install your new wiring system. Any new functionality is also installed along with a new fusebox.

Finally, a test will be conducted of your new system to ensure it’s performing correctly and safely.

This depends on the size of your house, accessibility and the complexity of the rewiring layout.

This depends on how large the property is, but small properties can take 3-4 days, bigger properties or anything requiring complex new wiring and automation systems, can take as long as 3-4 weeks.

Disruption will be kept to a minimum, however due to chasing out walls to hide cables it will make the environment very dusty. Temporary supplies will be made available whilst work is being carried out where appropriate.
